Waste Collection & Recycling

On May 3, 2021, the City of Wilkes-Barre will begin Dual Stream Recycling. Dual Stream Recycling keeps paper and cardboard products separate from glass and plastic containers and metal cans. Some of the benefits of Dual Stream Recycling are less contamination, higher quality and more valuable recovered material, and lower costs to process the collected recyclables. Paper and cardboard collection and plastic, bottles, and metal can collection will alternate each week, beginning on May 3rd, on your neighborhood’s collection day.
Please visit the Dual Steam Recycling page for more information.

2021 Collection Schedule Update

Mayor George C. Brown announced on March 30, 2021 that there will be modifications to the 2021 holiday garbage and recycling collection.
The original holiday collection schedule was designed to meet budgetary constraints. The Mayor recognizes how important services are to the residents of Wilkes-Barre and as a result of positive financial practices and expense reduction, he is happy to announce that holiday collection schedules will revert to the those held in previous years.

Additionally, the limit of yard waste containers will be increased to a total of 5 bins and/or paper leaf bags per household.

The administration has modified these 2021 holiday collections, as follows:
