The Office of Planning and Zoning is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the City of Wilkes-Barre’s zoning ordinance as amended, the subdivision and land development ordinance, and the Floodplain Management Ordinance.
Applications for development include, but are not limited to:
- New construction
- Changes of property use
- Signs posted on private property
Zoning permit applications are required for the construction of a host of activities which include establishing new business, the construction of buildings, carports, sheds, swimming pools, et cetera. Specialized zoning permit forms are available for fences, driveways, and enclosures.
In addition, enforcement issues are addressed in the Office of Planning and Zoning for compliance matters. Those wishing to apply for subdivision and land development should be advised that some applications usually require a meeting with the office staff prior to submission.
