Yard Waste

Yard Waste is collected curbside at no additional cost to residents.
There is a limit of total of 5 bins and/or paper leaf bags per household, per week. 

Each year, yard waste collection begins in late March/early April and ends in late November/early December.

2024 Yard Waste Collection:
Weekdays Monday through Friday (excluding holidays)
Curbside Yard Waste Collection begins Monday, April 1, 2024 and continues through Friday, December 6, 2024

Yard Waste curbside collection for Wilkes-Barre City residents begins on Monday, April 1st, 2024. Residents should place yard waste curbside, on their weekly collection day. Yard Waste will only be accepted in yard waste bins and paper yard waste bags.
There is a limit of 5 bags/bins per household.

Wilkes-Barre residents (ID required) can also drop off bagged/binned yard waste at the DPW yard, 3 Conyngham Ave., Wilkes-Barre, on weekdays (excluding holidays) from 8 AM to 2 PM beginning on Monday, April 1st.

Yard waste includes leaf waste, garden residue, grass clippings, wood waste, garden waste, and sod.
Tree clippings, tree branches and trunks, dirt, mulch, and bundled yard waste products WILL NOT  be collected.

Christmas Trees

Christmas trees are collected curbside after the holiday, beginning the first week of January and throughout the month. All items, including ornaments, disposal bags, tinsel and lights must be removed prior to pick-up.


Did You Know?

Recycling leaves and yard waste takes these materials out of the waste stream, and recycles them into beneficial products such as compost or mulch that can return nutrients to the soil or be used in residential landscaping projects.


Additional Resources

The Earth Conservancy composting facility is located in Newport Township, Pennsylvania.  Established in 1995, the facility accepts leaf and yard waste from local municipalities and residents in Luzerne County.
