Wilkes-Barre City Special Events Coordinator Announced

Mayor George C. Brown announced today that Kirk Merchel has been hired as Wilkes-Barre City’s Special Events Coordinator and Licensing Administrator, effective Monday, May 9th.

Merchel has served the City of Wilkes-Barre as a police officer for over 27 years. He most recently served as the WBPD’s Community Policing Officer, in which he organized and participated in numerous community events. Merchel is an avid car enthusiast and has been instrumental in the return of the Cruisin’ the Square Car Show, on Public Square. He looks forward to working with the public in a new capacity and providing opportunities for the residents, visitors, and organizations to get together and celebrate holidays and other public events.
