Wilkes-Barre City Ice Skating Rink to Open during Saturday’s Christmas Parade

Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown today announced that the Ice-Skating Rink on Public Square will be opened during the annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony, this Saturday, November 19th. The rink will be open from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Ice Skaters under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. Skates will be available free of charge, in exchange for state-issued drivers licenses or identification cards, which will be returned upon skate return. Skaters are also welcomed to wear their own skates.

The ice-skating rink will be open to the public during normal park hours of dawn to dusk, however, the city is working on a plan to provide ice skate rentals on a more consistent schedule. The city will post the hours of ice skate rental availability as soon as they are available.

“We are hoping to have the ice skate rental trailer open for a few hours every Thursday through Sunday. We are also planning future events in which ice skating will be made available. We want to get people out to enjoy Winter in the city,” said Mayor Brown.

The next Wilkes-Barre City event, after Saturday’s Christmas Parade will be “Santa on the Square” photos with Santa event on Saturday, December 10th from 12 PM to 2 PM, on Public Square. More details will be announced soon.
