Wilkes-Barre City Emergency Response Team Successfully Completes Brookside Portable Levee Exercise

On Monday, May 1, 2023, the City of Wilkes-Barre’s Mayor’s Office, Fire Department, Public Works Department, and Police Department completed an exercise to assemble, disassemble, and evaluate the Brookside/North Washington Street Portable Levee. The objectives of the exercise were to prepare, organize, take inventory of equipment, assemble the Brookside Portable Levee.

The Brookside Portable Levee Exercise was successful and demonstrated the participating city departments teamwork. All crews enhanced their knowledge during the exercise. Equipment was carefully evaluated and was stored for easy access when needed for a high-water event. Assembly of the Brookside Portable Levee took about 45 minutes.

The exercise enables the city’s emergency responders to strengthen their knowledge, skills, and abilities and retain pro-active response to protect the Brookside neighborhood from flooding.
