Road Closures and Parking Restrictions Announced for Downtown Wilkes-Barre for Sunday’s Wyoming Valley Run

Wilkes-Barre City Mayor George C. Brown has announced road closures and parking restrictions for Downtown Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, September 3rd during the Wyoming Valley Run (https://www.thewyomingvalleyrun.com/). Race spectators are encouraged to arrive early to park in Downtown Wilkes-Barre Park & Locks, however, Park & Lock East and Park & Lock North will be inaccessible from 8 AM to 12 PM, during the race. All other motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.

Parking meters on the following streets will be bagged for “No Parking” during the race. The meters will be bagged on Friday, September 1st, however ticketing and towing will begin at 6 AM on Sunday, September 3rd.

  • Public Square
  • South Main Street from Northampton Street to Public Square
  • North Franklin Street from East Market Street to West Union Street
  • North Main Street from Public Square to Jackson Street
  • North Washington Street from East Market Street to Jackson Street
  • Union Street from North River Street to North Washington Street
  • State Street from Union Street to East Market Street
  • North Pennsylvania Avenue at Penn Place

Additionally, any vehicles parked at the bagged meters and at the curb cutout on East Market Street, from North Washington Street to Public Square will be towed at 3 AM Sunday morning.

The following streets will be closed to traffic between 8 AM and 12 PM:

  • Northbound lanes of South River Street from West Northampton to Market Street
  • Both Lanes of North River Street from West Market Street to West Jackson Street
  • Market Street from River Street to Pennsylvania Avenue
  • Union Street from North River Street to North Pennsylvania Avenue
  • North Franklin Street from West Market Street to West Union Street
  • North Main Street from Public Square to Jackson Street
  • North Washington Street from East Union to East Jackson Street
  • North State Street from East Market Street to East Union Street

Traffic will be rerouted as follows:

  • Eastbound traffic from Market Street in Kingston will be rerouted southbound to South River Street in Wilkes-Barre.
  • All northbound traffic from South Franklin Street will be rerouted east onto Public Square to access South Main Street and East Northampton Street.
  • Southbound traffic from North River Street will be rerouted to Jackson Street to access North Street and North Pennsylvania Avenue.
