Mayor George Speaks with Senator Casey Staff on Stormwater Program

Mayor George

Today, Mayor Tony George had a conference call with members of Senator Casey’s Washington, D.C. staff to discuss the EPA’s unfunded mandate which has created the WVSA MS4 Stormwater Program fee. The fee causing a financial burden to Wyoming Valley residents.

Mayor George told the staffers that any unfunded mandate negatively affects the residents of our city. Since this is a federal mandate, of which its ultimate goal is clean water, Mayor George believe that the money should come from the federally funded Clean Water Revolving Fund.

The fee distributed nationally would be pennies, compared to the costs placed on residents of the Wyoming Valley.

Senator Casey’s staff will present the Mayor’s comments to the appropriate congressional committees. Mayor George thanks Senator Bob Casey for his constant support of the City Wilkes-Barre.
