Mayor Brown Announces Early Start to Yard Waste Collection

Mayor George C. Brown has announced that the Curbside Yard Waste Collection will begin a week earlier than originally planned, in response to residents’ requests. The pickup was originally scheduled to begin on April 4th, but will now begin on Monday, March 28th on residents’ collection day. Curbside Yard Waste Collection will continue through the week of November 28th, excluding holidays.

Yard Waste drop-off at DPW yard, 3 Conyngham Avenue, Wilkes-Barre will begin on March 28th  and continue through December 16th. Hours are 8 AM to 2 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Proof of Wilkes-Barre City Residency is REQUIRED for yard waste drop off.

Accepted yard waste items for both curbside collection and drop off include grass clippings, garden waste, and leaves. All accepted yard waste must be in containers for both pickup and drop off. No plastic bags! The limit of yard waste containers is 5 bins and/or paper leaf bags per household.

Items Not Accepted include yard waste items in plastic bags, tree clippings, branches or trunks, and bundled yard waste.

Timely curbside collections may be delayed due to staffing, weather conditions, and/or collection volume.
