Residential Property Rental License & Inspection
According to the “Wilkes-Barre City Code of Ordinances”, it is the obligation of every owner, landlord, and manager of a regulated rental unit in the city of Wilkes-Barre to notify the city upon offering the rental unit(s) for lease or rent. A license ($50) is required for each building, and an inspection ($100) is required for each rental unit. These fees, including the inspection, are due every two (2) years, or upon securing a new tenant.
Current rental property owners, should complete the Residental Property Rental License and Inspection Application and return it to the City of Wilkes-Barre Health Department. Applications can be mailed or delivered in person to:

Upon receipt of your application, a rental inspector from the city will contact you to arrange your inspection. Payment is due at the time of the inspection. No cash payments will be accepted.
***Failure to obtain a rental inspection and/or license can result in a fine of $500.00, or 30 days imprisonment, or both. ***
