Wilkes-Barre City Mayor Brown Announces Plans to Safely Celebrate Holiday Season

Wilkes-Barre, PA November 18, 2020

Mayor George C. Brown announced today changes to the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and a condensed parade, to minimize risk of exposure to COVID-19 attributed to large public gatherings.

The Annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony was originally scheduled for Saturday, November 21st. The condensed parade, similar to this year’s Veterans Day Parade, will now take place on Tuesday, November 24th, beginning at 4:30 PM. The parade will include Wilkes-Barre Police Department vehicles and Wilkes-Barre Fire Department fire engines. The parade route will start on South Main Street, continue down Main Street, around Public Square, and end on North Main Street.

Santa will make a special visit to Wilkes-Barre to present the first gift of Christmas to 7-year-old Nathan Gray of Wilkes-Barre. Nathan continues to bravely battle cancer.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 5:00 PM.  The tree is a Concolor Fir donated by downtown Wilkes-Barre business Letts Eat-Flavors of India Restaurant on South Main Street. The tree was purchased from Helen and Ed’s Tree Farm. The tree will be lit by Aleeza and Khushi Syed, on behalf of Letts East-Flavors of India Restaurant.
