Wilkes-Barre City Mayor Brown’s Statement Related to the American Rescue Plan Act Being Signed Into Law

“I was extremely pleased to learn that the American Rescue Plan Act was officially signed into law on March 11th by President Biden.  I have been informed that the City of Wilkes-Barre could be eligible to receive up to $38.8 Million under the Plan.  Like most government entities in Pennsylvania, the pandemic had (and continues to have) a devastating financial effect on the City.  I am optimistic these fiscal relief funds will be vital to the economic recovery of our City.

My plan now is to do a thorough review of the act with members of my senior staff to determine exactly what are eligible uses for these funds. I realize this last year has been a trying time for our residents and it is my intention to use these funds to achieve the greatest possible benefit for all residents of the City of Wilkes-Barre.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Senator Bob Casey and Congressman Matt Cartwright.  Thanks to their tireless efforts during this whole process, the City is in a much better position to deal with the devastating financial impact caused by the virus.”
