Wilkes-Barre City to Distribute New Residential Recycling Bins

Mayor Tony George has announced that the City of Wilkes-Barre will begin distributing new 32-gallon residential curbside recycling bins this week. Department of Public Works crews will distribute the bins to each residential address and will continue to distribute them until each residential address receive one (1) bin. The patience of residents is greatly appreciated as DPW crews deliver the bins throughout the city.

The bins will include an updated residential recycling education sheet, which will explain the DEP recycling requirements and the City of Wilkes-Barre’s recycling requirements for single-stream recycling and yard waste recycling programs.

The city acquired the bins through a $350,000 Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Recycling Grant. The grant funded the purchase of approximately 16,000  residential recycling bins at a cost of $207,825.  The remainder of the grant funds will be used toward the purchase of a leaf vacuum machine or equivalent.
