Public Square Upgrades, Phase 1 to Begin; Changes to City Event Locations

The City of Wilkes-Barre will begin the first phase of upgrades to Public Square on Monday, October 22, 2018. Work hours for the project will be from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, for approximately 6 weeks. Schedule is weather dependent.

The initial area of construction will begin on the east side of the fountain on the square, which will last approximately 3 weeks.  During construction, the entire east side of Public Square will be fenced off and no pedestrian traffic will be allowed. Once the east side is complete, the crew will begin construction in the area to the west side of the fountain. This area will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.

The construction will affect the remaining Farmers Market dates (October 25th, November 1st, 8th and 14th) and the Halloween Trick or Treating event on October 31st. Shoppers can continue to purchase fresh produce from their favorite farmers on the west side of the square, as all stands will be relocated to that side for the next 4 weeks.

Additionally, the Halloween Trick or Treating Event on Wednesday, October 31st will be relocated from Public Square to South Main Street, between Northampton Street and Public Square. The block will be closed to traffic so that attendees can safely trick or treat from downtown merchants. Details on the road closure will be released soon.
