Presidents Day Collection Schedule

Wilkes-Barre City Hall will be closed on Monday, February 18th in observance of Presidents Day, and will reopen on Tuesday, February 19th.

There will be no curbside collection on Presidents Day, Monday, February 18th. Residents with a Monday collection day, who live in Downtown and South Wilkes-Barre 1, will have their recycling picked up on Saturday, February 16th, the Saturday before the holiday. Garbage will be picked up on Tuesday, February 19th.

This collection schedule change is due to increased recycling efforts by residents. The city is collecting more recyclables than in the past and the increased volume has affected the ability to collect garbage and recycling (and yard waste in some months) for two collection areas at once, on a timely schedule.  The new schedule will prevent other neighborhoods pickups from being delayed.

To make holiday recycling pickup more efficient, recycling will now be picked up on the Saturday before the holiday while garbage and yard waste (May through November) will be picked up on the Tuesday after the holiday; for the following city-observed holidays: Presidents Day 2/18, Memorial Day 5/27, Labor Day 9/2, Columbus Day 10/14, and Veterans Day 11/11.

Additionally, residents in North End, Heights, and Brookside with a Tuesday collection day will have their recyclables picked up this Saturday, February 16th . Collection was delayed on Feb. 12th due to Tuesday’s storm.
