Portion of South Franklin Street to Close for UGI Gas Line Work

Begins Monday July 2nd

South Franklin Street, between Market and Northampton Street, in Downtown Wilkes-Barre will be closed overnight for necessary utility work, beginning next week.

UGI will replace gas mains beneath Franklin Street over the next few weeks. Once the gas main replacement is complete, UGI will have the street paved from curb to curb.

The project timeline is dependent on weather conditions and unforeseeable underground obstructions.

Night work on South Franklin Street, between Market and Northampton Street, will begin on Monday, July 2nd from 9:00 PM until 6:00 AM and continue through that week (except on Wednesday, July 4th) and the following few weeks.  Road closure updates will be released as they become available.

UGI will close the road during construction hours except for emergency personnel and local traffic. UGI and its contractor, Franchelli Enterprises, will work with businesses and residents to provide necessary access to parking facilities.

Temporary restoration of the roadway will occur at the end of each evening shift, so no traffic restrictions will be in place during daylight hours.

Franklin Street, between Market and Northampton Street, will be closed to through traffic. Emergency Vehicles will be able to pass.

Please contact individual businesses and nonprofits about changes to their evening events.
