Mayor George C. Brown Announces November Holiday Curbside Collection Schedule and Curbside Leaf Collection Schedule

Veterans Day—November 11^th
In observance of Veterans Day on Thursday, November 11^th, City Hall will be closed and there will be no DPW services. Garbage, Plastics #1-7, Glass, and Can Recycling, and Yard Waste Collection resumes for South Wilkes-Barre 2 on Friday, November 12^th. A high volume of collection is expected, therefore, anything not collected on Friday, should be left curbside for pickup the following day. All other collection dates will remain as scheduled, however, delays are possible.

Curbside Leaf Collection Begins November 15^th
Curbside leaf collection via DPW’s leaf vacuum truck will begin the week of Monday, November 15^th and continue over the next few weeks. Leaves will be removed from the tree lawn and curb line (where the street meets the curb). Residents must have leaves that they want removed, collected in small piles, on their tree lawns. Leaf bags will not be accepted.

Curbside leaf collection is as scheduled:

Week of November 15^th: East End, Parsons, and Miners Mills

Week of November 22^nd: Downtown Wilkes-Barre

Week of November 29^th: South Wilkes-Barre 1 and 2

Week of December 6^th: North End, Heights, and Brookside

Week of December 13^st: Mayflower, Rolling Mill Hill, Iron Triangle and Goose Island

Residential leaf drop-off will also be accepted at DPW Facility, 3 Conyngham Ave. Wilkes-Barre, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 3 PM. Residents must present proof of residence such as a Driver’s License.

Thanksgiving Collection
City Hall will be closed and there will be no DPW services on Thanksgiving Day, November 25^th and the Day after Thanksgiving, November 26^th. Thursday, November 25^th garbage collection for South Wilkes-Barre 2, and Friday, November 27^th garbage collection East End, Parsons, and Miners Mills is rescheduled for Saturday, November 27^th. Recycling and yard waste collection will resume the following week, with double recycling and yard waste pickup for South Wilkes-Barre 2 on Thursday, December 2^nd and double recycling and yard waste pickup for East End, Parsons & Miners Mills on Friday, December 3^rd.

End of Yard Waste Collection
The last week of curbside yard waste collection is the week of November 29^th through December 3^rd, on residents’ collection day.
