Mayor Brown Announces City’s Plans for Independence Day Celebration

Mayor George C. Brown announced today that the City of Wilkes-Barre plans to celebrate Independence Day on Sunday, July 4th, 2021 at Kirby Park. The event will follow all CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines in place at that time.

“While I am hoping to have a celebration similar to what our residents are accustomed to, this is proving to be very challenging. As the city relies on donations to fund the celebration, we may be forced to scale down what our residents have come to expect,” said Mayor Brown.

In order to have a successful event, the City is seeking donations to offset the cost of the celebration and entertainment. Individuals and Organizations who are in a position to make a donation, however small, can contact the Mayor’s Office at 570.208.4157 at your earliest convenience. Donations can be made payable to the City of Wilkes-Barre.

The City is also seeking musical entertainment and food vendors for the event. Entertainers and food vendors can contact Special Events Coordinator Patty Hughes at phughes@wilkes-barre.pa.us or 570.208.4149 for more information.
