Delays in Wilkes-Barre City Curbside Pickup Possible

Wilkes-Barre, PA November 19, 2020

Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown today cautioned residents that delays in curbside garbage and recycling pickup are possible, as daily Department of Public Works manpower numbers are likely to fluctuate with the rise in positive COVID-19 cases in the City. Currently, numerous DPW employees are in quarantine as part of contact tracing.

“DPW workers have been providing the essential service of waste removal since the beginning of the pandemic. Other industries, including healthcare, retail, and food services, have felt the effect of having multiple COVID-19 positive employees at the same time. Government entities and their employees are not immune to this devastating virus. I ask residents to be patient and empathetic as the City continues to provide waste removal services in a manner that protects the health and wellbeing of our employees” said Mayor George C. Brown.
