Mayor George is happy to announce a curbside large item pickup. 

The Large Item Pickup will begin on Monday, August 13, 2018 during the regular collection day for South Wilkes-Barre 1 and Downtown. 

Schedules for each neighborhood in the City will be released in advance, based on volume received in the previous neighborhood. All pickups will occur in August, September, and October at a rate of a neighborhood per week. 

Permit stickers are $10 per item or container (65 lb. max per container). Each residence may purchase stickers for up to two (2) items/containers (limit one item/container per sticker). Limit of two (2) stickers per household. Commercial Properties and High Rises are excluded from the pickup. Stickers must be attached to each item/container.

Stickers can be purchased at the Tax Office, 1st Floor, City Hall, 40 East Market Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711 between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday or at the Hollenback Golf Course from 7:00AM to 7:00PM, Sunday through Saturday. Only cash, checks, and money orders made payable to “The City of Wilkes-Barre” are accepted.

Stickers for residents in South Wilkes-Barre 1 & Downtown neighborhoods ONLY will be available for purchase between Monday, July 23rd and Friday, August 10th. Purchasing dates for other neighborhoods will be announced soon.

Items Accepted:
Furniture, Mattresses, Washers, Dryers, Hot Water Heaters, Refrigerators w/doors removed, Stoves, Dishwashers, Compactors, Chest Freezers, Water Coolers, Dehumidifiers, and containers of household junk (65 lb. max per container).

Items NOT Accepted:
Electronics (Televisions, Microwaves, Computers, Stereos, etc.), Air Conditioners, Rugs, Dishes, Lamps, Tires, Car Batteries, Recyclables, Residential Waste, and Yard Waste

Tips for a Successful Large Item Pick-Up:
•All items must be placed at the curbside for collection by 6 A.M. on the day of pickup.
•Stickers must be attached to each item/container to enable pickup.
•Please adhere to the accepted items list above.
•The City cannot remove any items from homes or backyards. 
•Crews will not return to homes that did not place their items outside in time for pick-up
•Please ensure that items are kept off of the street and sidewalk.
•Some streets may require temporary “No Parking Zones” so that all items are picked up.
•Please adhere to posted “No Parking Zones” to ensure that the pick-up is safe and efficient. 
•If you observe illegal dumping, immediately call 911 and be prepared to provide descriptions on persons, vehicles and/or license plates of those dumping
