Contractor License

The City of Wilkes-Barre holds bi-annual contractors licensing test for applicants in order to become licensed through the City. These tests can be taken in a wide array of fields with varying fees as applicable. 

Tests will be conducted Semi Annually on the last Saturdays of March and September. In order to take the test, the applicant information and $150.00 test fee (non-refundable) must be submitted to the City of Wilkes-Barre’s Code Enforcement Office no later than six weeks prior to the testing date. For any additional information please call (570) 208-1629.

One Time License

A one time license is a license given “once” for a specific project be it commercial or residential, the license is one time life time. For example, if a company from another city or state comes to Wilkes-Barre to do a project but does not poses a Wilkes-Barre license, we will require 2 letters of recommendation from architects or engineers from their area where they are licensed.

Letter of recommendation from the building code officials from their area will also be accepted to provided they are from a third class city or better and proof of insurance. A fee of $350.00 includes the $150.00 test fee allowing the applicant to take the next scheduled test. The test fee is charged whether the applicant takes the test or not. Once these documents are received a one time license will be issued upon review by the Building Code Official.
